What to expect at The Bishop’s Summit on Faith & Giving
Every church is uniquely qualified to unite a diverse community around shared purpose. Once we see ourselves as agents of change, the ministry that calls us will leap into focus.
A NEW LANGUAGE FOR TALKING ABOUT MONEY
The key to effective fundraising is a compelling story about your mission. Learn to craft the narrative that gives others a reason to join in.
A WAY FORWARD
Clergy and fundraising experts unpack the tools – both practical and spiritual – that give us what Henri Nouwen promises: “the freedom to ask without fear.”
The Rev. Dr. Starsky Wilson is a pastor and philanthropist pursuing God’s vision of community marked by justice, peace and love. He shows churches how to successfully navigate the systems of finance, policy and power to effect lasting change on behalf of the marginalized.
Rev. Wilson recently stepped down as pastor of St. John’s Church (UCC) in St. Louis, which served as a host site for the Black Lives Matter Ferguson Freedom Ride. He now heads the Deaconess Foundation, where his leadership has birthed a dynamic capacity-building model for faith-based philanthropy.

Working from within that school, the Lake Institute on Faith & Giving offers the latest research, data and renowned scholarship on fundraising best practices. The Institute’s Melissa Spas and Meredith McNabb will lead us in an idea-packed learning session.
Attendance fee $10 and lunch is included. Parking is plentiful, and free. For information about financial assistance to cover attendance fees, please contact Melissa Hickman, Pathways Director, firstname.lastname@example.org
