Leader: God Almighty grant us a peaceful night and a perfect end. Amen.
Leader: Our help is in the Name of the Lord;
People: The maker of heaven and earth.
Leader: Let us confess our sins to God.
All: Almighty God, our heavenly Father:
We have sinned against you, through our own fault, in thought, word and deed, and in what we have left undone. For the sake of your Son our Lord Jesus Christ, forgive us all our offenses; and grant that we may serve you in newness of life, to the glory of your Name. Amen.
Leader: May the Almighty God grant us forgiveness of all our sins, and the grace and comfort of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Leader: O God, make speed to save us.
People: O Lord, make haste to help us.
All: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in
the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia.
Leader: Let us say together "The Song of Mary" Magnificat: Luke 1:46-55
All: My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in you, O God, my Savior,
for you have looked with favor on your servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
you, the Almighty, have done great things for me,
and holy is your Name.
You have mercy on those who fear you,
from generation to generation,
You have shown strength with your arm
and scattered the proud in their conceit,
Casting down the mighty from their thrones
and lifting up the lowly.
You have filled the hungry with good things
and sent the rich away empty.
You have come to the help of your servant Israel,
for you have remembered your promise of mercy,
The promise made to our forebears,
to Abraham and his children for ever.
All: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
Leader/Reader: When a woman is in labor, she has pain, because her hour has
come. But when her child is born, she no longer remembers the
anguish because of the joy of having brought a human being into
the world. So you have pain now; but I will see you again, and
your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.
John 16:21-22
Meditation Daily Prayer for All Seasons
Ask yourself: Will this satisfy
a woman satisfied to bear a child?
Will this disturb the sleep
of a woman near to giving birth?
-Wendell Berry
Reflection: As we seek our own renewal, we look at others through the lens of compassion; how will this point of view affect our choices?
(A short period of silence follows the meditation)
Leader: Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit;
People: For you have redeemed me, O Lord, O God of truth.
Leader: Keep us, O Lord, as the apple of your eye;
People: Hide us under the shadow of your wings.
Leader: Lord, have mercy
People: Christ have mercy
Leader: Lord, have mercy
All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who
trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us
from evil.
Leader: Lord, hear our prayer;
People: And let our cry come to you.
Leader: Let us pray,
Be our light in the darkness, O Lord, and in your great mercy defend us
from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of your only Son,
our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this
night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick,
Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love’s sake. Amen.
(At this time silence may be kept, and free intercessions and thanksgivings may be offered.)
Song of Simeon
Antiphon
All: Guide us waking, O Lord, and guard us sleeping; that awake we may watch with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace.
Lord, you now have set your servant free,*
to go in peace as you have promised;
For these eyes of mine have seen the Savior, *
whom you have prepared for all the world to see:
A light to enlighten the nations, *
and glory of your people Israel.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
